Audemars Piguet [RE]Master02 Selfwinding — An architectural execution in precious “concrete”

Before answering the question, let’s first explain the term “Brutalism.”According to the British architectural critic and writer Reyne Banham, it was Swedish architect Hans Asplund who introduced the term “Brutalism” into architecture in 1956. It was a sarcastic remark about a project that was being built. The word originates from architect Le Corbusier’s use of beton brut, meaning “raw concrete” in French.

You could say “Brutalism” is a lost-in-translation term, but it’s also a deliberate one to express disapproval. It’s a bit sad when you know that Le Corbusier began to work with concrete out of love for the material. The first building he designed after World War II was La Unité d’Habitation, an apartment complex for 1,600 people of the working class made with reinforced concrete and located in Marseille, France. It was built with the best of intentions and a positive perception of the future, so other architects followed Le Corbusier.

Angular, concrete buildings were a great success at first, but Brutalism began to fall out of fashion in the 1970s. According to Ashley Gardini of JSTOR Daily, “The outsize concrete structures no longer appeared as uplifting icons of post-war development. Instead, they were seen as overpowering, cold buildings that were more often than not associated with the ills of society.” Will the architectural Audemars Piguet [RE]Master02 Selfwinding replica watches for sale also cause a stir? According to the brand, updating one was not possible, and creating a brand-new shaped movement would have been too expensive. It would have resulted in the [RE]Master02 Selfwinding costing over €100,000. By using the existing movement from the “Jumbo” the price of the [RE]Master02 Selfwinding is “only” around €47,400. That is still a significant amount of money, but not excessive when you look at AP’s catalog, in which the 41mm pink gold Royal Oak (ref. 15510OR.OO.D315CR.02) is priced at €43,700.

Final thoughts on the [RE]Master02 Selfwinding

Kudos to AP for doing something unexpected. With the [RE]Master02 Selfwinding, the brand shows it dares to do more than make countless variations on the “RO” theme. And when it does, it does so in spectacular style. How does it wear on the wrist, you ask? Well, it feels present. It’s not a small watch. Staying true to the original size of the inspirational Swiss made super clone watches would have resulted in a tiny timepiece by modern standards.

Would 38mm have been a better size, especially since the luxury replica watches is asymmetrical, very geometrical, and architectural as well? Well, quite possibly, caliber 7129 with its 29.6mm diameter would not have fit. After asking, I learned that an in-house movement was preferred for a special creation like the [RE]Master02 Selfwinding over a movement with a Vaucher lineage, such as the caliber 4302 that beats inside the 37mm Royal Oak Frosted Gold Selfwinding ref. 15550BA.GG.1356BA.01.

The statement piece

More than anything else, the [RE]Master02 Selfwinding is a statement piece you won’t wear every day. This is a watch for a particular audience — not so much the hardcore RO- or ROO-wearing audience — that dares to wear something different and is willing to pay for that. It also looks like a watch every self-respecting architect should own, even the ones who distance themselves from Brutalism. I was very much impressed by the shape, the finishing, the angled sapphire crystal, the way the light hit the dial, and the prominent place it took on my wrist.

What is interesting in these times of great global turmoil that leaves people desiring comfort and reassurance is that AP decided to release a watch that is not for everyone. And I don’t mean the fact that it’s limited to 250 pieces and that the price is exclusive. The [RE]Master02 Selfwinding is a watch that will polarize its onlookers. Very much unlike the [RE]Master01, a round and soft traditionalist, the [RE]Master02 Selfwinding is a bold and strong objet d’art that doesn’t want to please. Therefore, there is hardly a middle ground when it comes to judging the fake watches shop. This watch is a love/hate affair. And I choose love. I would wear it to the Met Gala, a wedding, another wedding, a fancy party, and to the office sometimes to provoke a nice conversation.

The TAG Heuer Formula 1 × Kith

TAG Heuer has chosen to partner with the clothing brand Kith to bring back its original Formula 1. Founder Ronnie Fieg is a well-known collector who owns quite a stable of cheap replica watches. However, like many of us, the original Formula 1 was also his first nice watch, and he has pulled together an astounding collection of these pieces. From the mainstream models to the rarities, his collection runs the gamut. He’s also outspoken about his love for these watches and, let’s face it, he has a very hot brand. So, the partnership makes sense. As we’ll see, the watches have been brought back with some nods to modernity, and there are branding reminders. Still, they’re very on point.

Ten different models are being released under the new 1:1 2024 replica TAG Heuer Formula 1 × Kith line watches. All of the models are limited editions, and their availability differs. If it sounds confusing, it is! However, I’ll do my best to explain the differences. As far as the common points, TAG Heuer mentions that it tracked down the original case maker from the ’80s models and is using them again.

Specs

The size remains unchanged at 35mm, but the fiberglass versions have been replaced with PVD-coated stainless steel. I’m curious if the unidirectional bezels are still plastic, but it seems to be the case. If you’ve ever owned one of these top copy watches, they were prone to wear. Thickness is 9.45mm, and the lug-to-lug is 40mm. A nice modern update is the use of a flat sapphire crystal. Water resistance is 200 meters.

The original Formula 1 has a prominent TAG Heuer shield on its screw-in case back. The new models contain a new logo blending Kith and Heuer into the shield. “Kith & Kin,” a slogan used by the clothing brand, is inscribed into the case back along with the number of pieces. Sadly, the original round plastic watch box is not making a return. Still, the packaging looks cool and features the shield and Kith branding. Concerning the 18mm straps and bracelets, TAG Heuer has updated the strap from truly uncomfortable plastic to a far more compliant rubber. The bracelet also sports a significant change away from the old clasp with a safety lock. It now has a push-button release.

The Kith-only models

There are five different Kith-exclusive models with colored cases that come with rubber straps. Note the Kith Heuer shield on the straps. Also, the script “Just Us,” a reference to Fieg’s familial circle, is on all the models above six o’clock. Each piece will be limited to just 250 and comes in packaging that matches the colorway.

The names for each model are inspired by cities where Kith currently has a boutique. The black and yellow model is “Toronto,” the all-black is “New York,” the multi-colored is “Hawaii,” the red is “Tokyo,” and the beige is “Miami.” Pricing for these models will be CHF 1,500.

Furthermore, there are two steel AAA replica watches on a bracelet that are Kith-only exclusives. 350 of each will be available. The blue bezel variant is named the “Los Angeles,” and the green bezel model is called the “Paris.” Note the inscribed “Kith & Kin” on the top of the case at 12 o’clock. These are also priced at CHF 1,500.

TAG Heuer-only models

TAG Heuer will sell two models exclusively in its boutiques. These models will be available exclusively in the TAG Heuer Miami AD on May 3rd before a global launch on May 6th. TAG Heuer will make 850 of each with a price of CHF 1,500.

A shared offering that is also my favorite

Finally, there is a shared model within the TAG Heuer Formula 1 × Kith that will be available at both Kith and TAG Heuer. 1350 pieces of the traditional stainless model with its greenish-yellow model will be available for CHF 1,500. This model will only be available on a 5-row stainless steel bracelet.

For those with very deep pockets

For those who wish for a collection of Swiss made fake TAG Heuer Formula 1 watches that will rival Ronnie Fieg’s collection, a set of all ten watches is available in a special case. 75 of these sets will be produced and will retail for CHF 18,000.

Takeaways on the Formula 1 × Kith models

Overall, I’m thrilled that the original Formula 1 models are back on the scene. Plus, aside from the Kith-related cosmetic touches, they’re quite faithful. I like the modern touches such as the sapphire crystal and I’m even ok with the new bracelets and straps. The use of PVD instead of fiberglass also feels like a classier touch. So, what’s not to like?

Well, as you can imagine, I’m winded by the thought of another set of limited-edition watches. Even if I find these watches a bit pricey, I’m sure they’ll sell out instantaneously. Then, we can watch the silliness unfold on the secondary market. Watches that were once meant to be devoured by the masses have now become something else entirely. As far as the physical aspects of the watches, the only real “miss” is the lack of a fully lumed dial. That’s a hallmark of these wholesale super clone watches and I’m not sure why it wasn’t included.

Final thoughts

If the availability of these TAG Heuer Formula 1 × Kith models is a real concern, consider two points. First, I doubt that a company the size of TAG would release a “new” model like this in such a limited series and then call it quits. I expect a regular edition to follow (note: I have zero inside intelligence on this). Who knows if they’ll also be 35mm, but I expect something in the future. Second, the used market for vintage Formula 1 models is active, but good pieces are still much less expensive than these new models. Consider whether you’ll really wear a 35mm luxury replica watches enough to justify what some flipper will undoubtedly ask for one of these. A vintage model in decent condition is just as attractive.

Now it’s time to slip on and try out the double-denim Patek Philippe duo — the World Time Date 5330G and Nautilus Self-Winding Chronograph 5980/60G. I had to find out how these somewhat controversially styled 1:1 UK replica watches felt and wore in reality. While I was at it, I also managed to get a little time with the Aquanaut Travel Time 5164G, which comes in grayish-blue attire that reminds me of faded jeans.

Sure, the new white gold and blue Aquanaut Travel Time 5164G on its rubber strap got a pass, but the other two… Allow me a small but stinging collection of quotes from the comment section: “Trying to connect to a younger audience by using the faded Jeans look, wow!” “Dad jeans.” “They could have collaborated with Diesel or Jnco…” Those comments are, of course, based on the press pics provided by Patek. Those were the same ones on which I based my first article, which went live on the first day of Watches and Wonders 2024. As always, though, a hands-on with the final product is necessary to get to know and experience the high quality fake watches.

The double-denim Patek Philippe duo got a lot of heat, but is that fair?

With perfect replica watches, it’s pretty much the same as with jeans; you have to try them on for size. Looking at pictures, liking what you see, and even picking your usual size doesn’t guarantee a perfect fit. If you want to stray away from your perfect pair of jeans, the only way to do it is to get out there and try on what you have in mind. So I entered the Patek Philippe press room and asked for a 31 × 32 to find out if my trusted size would also apply to the brand’s denim offerings. OK, no, I didn’t. But I did try on the World Time Date 5330G and Nautilus Chronograph 5980/60G as soon as I could.

It looks like real denim…

First up was the World Time Date 5330G. Immediately, the strap looked a lot like real denim. Upon touching it, though, I could instantly tell that it wasn’t. It’s super soft to the touch, for one, and it feels very luxurious. The rough structure of denim is absent, but the look remains. And although I’m usually not the biggest fan of contrast stitching — it takes attention away from the dial, for instance — in the case of this rather loud denim-style strap, the white stitching is on point.

The straps are made by the same company that made the embossed carbon-look calfskin straps for last year’s three Calatrava 6007G iterations. Maybe the person responsible for straps at Patek went there, got to see a very impressive presentation with all kinds of wild designs made possible by new techniques, and ordered something exotic for a few years to come. Just wait to see what straps Patek will surprise us with come Watches and Wonders 2025…

Not too baggy and not too skinny

Pairing a “denim” strap with a white gold best online copy watches from Patek Philippe’s Complications collection might sound a bit like wearing destroyed 501s and a handmade tie from Drake’s (according to British GQ, the best classic tie maker in the world). It seems like it shouldn’t work. In real life, though, the combination did make sense to me.

The dial design of the technically advanced World Time Date 5330G is quite dynamic and casual in a very carefully styled and crafted way. The watch looks fresh and vital, and so does a well-fitting pair of jeans — not too baggy and definitely not skinny. I don’t think the strap downgrades the CHF 65,000 World Time Date at all. And, if you’re a potential customer, don’t worry if you can’t live with the strap the replica watches for men is presented on. You can have another strap fitted to your new watch in the boutique. How about a red alligator one to match the tiny red details on the dial?

Looking past the strap

When I look past the strap and focus on the case, dial, and movement of the 2024 China super clone watches, I don’t find anything to dislike. The proportions of the fully polished white gold 40 × 11.57mm case are quite good. Sure, at 49.74mm from tip to tip, the lugs are on the lengthy side, but I didn’t find that problematic on my wrist. Speaking of the lugs, their stepped shape is very sophisticated, and the rounded mid-case is just sublime. The same can also be said about the 3Hz micro-rotor caliber 240 HU C inside, an upgraded variant of the caliber 240 HU found in the standard World Time model.

One of the most outstanding elements of the new World Time Date is almost impossible to see. It’s the red-tipped glass date hand driven by a dedicated going train. This new date mechanism consists of no fewer than 70 parts. The way the date moves backward and forward in sync with the time display is also captivating.

Nautilus in denim — the perfect fit?

The chronograph version of the Nautilus is not a new concept. The reference 5980/60G with a blue dial is. And so is the new jeans-look strap, of course. You might say that the sportiest of all Nautilus models is the perfect fit for the most easy-going straps in the Patek Philippe collection. Again, the quality is super high, but because of the luxury replica watches‘ pronounced 40.5 × 12.2mm dimensions, porthole shape, different angles, and horizontally embossed dial design and layout, the denim-look strap feels like a bit much. Unlike the round-cased, standard-lugged World Time Date, which helps the strap seem fairly straightforward, the Nautilus has an intricate integrated bracelet by design. And that flowing design is now “interrupted,” so to speak, by an extravagant strap on a special link in a peculiar shape to fit the case.

Visually, there’s just a lot going on here. There’s also the chronograph’s combined hour/minute counter, for instance, and the pushers on the right side of the case. The CHF 67,000 Nautilus Self-Winding Chronograph 5980/60G is a lot to take in. That said, it does sit nicely on the wrist. With a 45.4mm lug-to-lug, the size is fool-proof, and the white gold Nautilus-signed folding clasp looks the part and works flawlessly. I do prefer a pin buckle with sports watches, but in this case, it would not make much sense. I mean, who’s going to exercise wearing a watch like this?

When I managed to look past the strap, I noticed the case and bezel showing delicate, contrasting polished and satin finishes. And through the case back’s sapphire window, the automatic flyback chronograph caliber CH 28‑520 C/522 also shows prominent signs of horological refinement.

Patek Philippe Aquanaut Travel Time 5164G-001: true blue

The new top fake Patek Philippe Aquanaut Travel Time 5164G-001 watches with its blue dial and rubber strap is rather hard to dislike. It’s way less controversial because of its grayish-blue rubber strap that’s not too light, too dark, too shiny, or too matte. The case’s 40.8mm diameter, 10.2mm thickness, and 46.5mm lug-to-lug length are spot on; are there any adult wrists out there that can’t handle a case with these measurements?

It’s safe to say that of all three blue-jeans novelties, the globetrotting Aquanaut is the one that’s (almost) above discussion. It’s water resistant to 120 meters (and also 30 meters, the golden/confusing standard Patek Philippe introduced this year out of the blue), and the automatic caliber 26-330 S C FUS caliber is something almost everyone can get behind. Maybe the only hurdle is the CHF 53,500 price. Well, that and the fact that it will be very difficult to get your hands on it, even if you have CHF 50K+ to spend but the people working in your closest AD are not on a first-name basis with you.

A last word on denim

As you might know, I own an Oris × Momotaro Divers Sixty-Five, a retro diver with a denim strap. A Watches and Wonders impression is best served cold. A little distance from the fair is necessary to transform impressions into organized thoughts. Six days should do the trick. So, what impression did the biggest watch show on Earth make on me? Well, going through my notes led to this story that includes some hot and cold Swiss made replica watches I saw during an ultimately lukewarm Watches and Wonders 2024.

So, this is what happened when Watches and Wonders 2024 opened its doors on Tuesday, April 9th at 8:30: everyone who had something to post — the fair welcomed 49,000 visitors, including 1,500 media folks — ran to Rolex, Patek Philippe, and Tudor, the brands that don’t do embargoed press releases ahead of the fair. Within minutes, these three brands’ highly anticipated novelties are online, and the dust settles.

Looking back at a lukewarm Watches and Wonders 2024: did the “Big Three” deliver?

The fact that Tudor is in the top three brands to see is impressive. The release of the Black Bay in 2012 marked the start of a remarkable rise for the brand. Before 2012, nobody bothered to look at the display cases of the Tudor booth, which was attached to the booth of its big sister Rolex. Come 2024, Tudor has been the proud owner of a standalone booth for four years, and after AAA UK Rolex fake watches, it’s the next brand people want to take a look at once Palexpo opens its doors.

During the times of Baselworld, Rolex and Patek Philippe were the “Big Two” of the fair. First things first — Rolex

Rolex never delivers. Let me explain. In the run-up to Watches and Wonders, Rolex predictions and wishes are shared in large numbers. Many people wanted a “Coke” GMT-Master II. Others, like me, hoped for a titanium Milgauss, and the possible return of the Turn-O-Graph was also discussed. Cheap Rolex replica watches didn’t deliver any of these. Instead, we got nothing all that new; the novelties were simply iterations of existing models. Was it to calm down the market? Well, Rolex CEO Jean-Frédéric Dufour, who’s also president of the Watches and Wonders Foundation, pointed out at the beginning of the fair that due to the strong Swiss franc, the rising price of gold, and the uncertain geopolitical situation, the watch market has lost momentum and cooled down significantly.

Dufour also had something to say about the way people perceive luxury 1:1 copy watches, mainly, those from Rolex. “I don’t like it when people compare watches to stocks,” he said. “It sends the wrong message and is dangerous. We make products, not investments.” And in that light, the release of nothing brand new makes sense. There was a Perpetual 1908 in platinum, for instance, and a yellow gold Deepsea, both of which are very niche. We also got the steel GMT-Master II (126710GRNR) with a gray and black bezel (which debuted last year on full-gold and steel/gold versions) and the model name and GMT hand in green. No, there was no crowd-pleasing “Coke” or even a weird iteration like the green and black lefty from 2021.

In my humble opinion, the Rolex releases were like the depressing main character from the 2003 movie The Cooler, a guy with a dark vibe who’s hired by a Las Vegas casino to jinx gamblers on a winning streak.

Denim: is it cool or lazy? — Patek Philippe dresses up/down for Watches and Wonders

You’re right; in my introduction article on the Patek Philippe World Time Date 5330G and Nautilus Chronograph 5980G super clone watches for men, I was positive about the double-denim duo the brand brought to the show. I still think the World Time Date 5330G looks great, and the jeans-look leather strap works. The Nautilus, however, with its more intricate connection between case and strap and the way more prominent case shape and size, doesn’t work as well. But what’s more interesting to point out is that both aforementioned top replica watches already existed with different dials or in different materials. The World Time Date 5330G debuted with a purple dial as a special Tokyo edition, and Aquanaut Travel Time 5164 already existed in rose gold. Plus, the in-line perpetual calendar 5236P already came out in 2021 with a blue dial. Sure, it got a new (and awesome) vintage-inspired opaline rose-gilt dial, but that was it.

What was truly new was the bracelet for the Golden Ellipse ref. 5738/1R-001. It’s a fully polished rose gold chain-style bracelet comprising 363 elements and more than 300 links individually mounted by hand. Well, 2024 clearly marks the year of the strap and the bracelet at Patek.

What else was new? Complications!

IWC updated the Portugieser 7 Days. The brand made small changes in terms of slimness and design details, but the result is a more sophisticated perfect UK replica watches. The update is evolution in its finest form. The biggest shock was the name change. The 7 Days is now called the Automatic 42. Why? According to an IWC employee after the product presentation in the brand’s booth, it’s because there’s also a 40mm Portugieser with an automatic movement, and that’s called the Portugieser Automatic 40. If you ask me, this is a typical case of the strong suffering from the weak. IWC didn’t dare/want to call the less costly 40mm version the Portugieser 2.5 Days and went for Automatic 40 instead. In 2024, IWC wants to straighten out its model names, and the brand axed the most iconic one in the Portugieser collection for the sake of uniformity. Well, that’s a shame.
